Our purpose is to bring alive the history of our Tennessee county and our city of Clarksville. We welcome you and want you to learn about our area and some of our historical places . We invite you to visit our next meeting. You will like what you experience and will want to become a member.

On our link page we link to a number of good sources of information. If you are looking for information on families you may want to begin with our county archivist.

We have a rich railroad history . Please visit some of our intriguing old homes many of which are on the national registry. Our cemeteries include the resting place of many famous people. The published history (catalog of publications available and method for ordering) of Montgomery County and Clarksville include many you will want to read. We have many replicas of famous buildings which you can purchase.

Our society began in 1924 but this web page is new. We will up date it often. We welcome your suggestions and questions.

Mission statement for Montgomery County Historical Society:

  • To promote interest in and enjoyment of the history of Montgomery County, Tennessee.
  • To Ascertain, preserve and promote local history.
  • To identify historic sites and structures and promote their preservation.
